Teja Gerken Description
Concert and Workshop!
Born in Germany, hailing from San Francisco where he's spent a lifetime influencing the acoustic guitar world on every front. From pioneering significant music institutions like Acoustic Guitar magazine and Peghead Nation to playing global acoustic shows, festivals and venues, to his albums, collaborations and compositions, Teja is a top-shelf artist we're proud to host. His Classical guitar work includes of course gorgeous Classical and Jazz pieces, but also his marvelous originals to Celtic gems. ** BIG BONUS for RENO! Teja is giving a Workshop! Not just any Workshop, but one so many guitarists have the need for ~ Alternate Tuning! 3:00 to 4:30. Geared towards strong/serious Beginners to Intermediate This is quite the special Workshop. Whether you’re completely new to playing in Alternate tunings or want to expand on the tunings you already use, in this workshop, fingerstyle guitarist and Peghead Nation co-founder Teja Gerken will help you see beyond EADGBE. You'll be shown examples in common tunings such as Drop D, Open D, DADGAD, Open G, etc., and taught WHY you might choose one tuning over another. The mystery will be revealed of the 'common territory' between various tunings, as well as their relationships to standard tuning. This will help you navigate what will seem like a Re-arranged fretboard. You'll be shown how alternate tunings facilitate contemporary fingerstyle techniques, how they can be useful in the context of playing with others, and how they can create rich, lush sounds for guitarists who accompany their voice. You'll even learn how alternate tunings can make complex tones easier to achieve! Teja is providing you music and TAB with examples, as well as complete transcriptions to his arrangements of the Irish traditional The South Wind (in DADGAD) and the Beatles’ While My Guitar Gently Weeps (in CGDGCD tuning). It's going to be a fully packed experience, so be ready. Yes, Bring your guitars. Get your seats now,,,,class size will be limited. See you soon! Additional Information
